During my recent visit to the Big Island Hawaii my husband and I stopped in at the local apiary, Big Island Bees. What an educational visit to learn about where their honey comes from. They have 3 varieties of honey, Ohia Lehua which comes from a beautiful red flower that grows through the volcanic rock, Wilelaki Blossom ( the Hawaiian Christmas Berry) and Macadamia Nut Blossom.

This is a photo I took of the bees loving the Ohia Lehua flower. This tree is know to thrive in volcanic landscapes, often being one of the first plants to colonize new lava flows.
