The weather is warming and our girls are working hard producing that delicious honey we all love. Overall our winter loss was 27% of our hives. This past year commercial beekeepers had catastrophic losses of approximately 60% of their hives. This is extremely concerning since honey bees are the backbone of our food system.
Now we just need Mother Nature to continue with balanced weather to support our girls and their work. Last years drought in June caused us to have 1/3 lower honey production than normal. Let’s keep our fingers crossed things are better this summer. I will be posting when honey is harvested and ready for porch pick up. Thanks to all my customers who make it possible for us to continue this very important work. Remember 1 out of every 3 bites of food you consume comes from something that was pollinated by honey bees.
